i'm not mad at manila going home - but it really should have been latrice at this point. neither are my favourites though so either one worked for me.

Naomi's lip sync was amazing, but eliminating Manilla was complete utter bullsh*t.
exactly. Manila was the winner for me. so sad she is gone.

Shangela should have won AS3 and Trinity should have been the sole winner of AS4.

i definitely didn't like it. the double crowning looked very forced. i know the contestants don't really know who is the winner when they are filming, but this time monet and trinity's celebration of their win seemed very fake. and then, the editing was terrible, and made it even clearer that this decision of both winning was something recently decided.

the season was not so good in general. manila was the best, and she was kicked out. these rules doesn't make any sense if the aim of the tv series is to give the crown to the best...

but well, it's just a tv show after all. i still enjoy it and hope the 11th season is nice.

The finale was super anti-climatic but that's maybe because after following it for 3 or 4 seasons I'm basically over the show. I'm glad they both got $100,000, I guess.

I think I am done with Drag Race.

Season 10 was already a chore to watch and this one looks no different.
The move to VH1 really brought more bad than good with it.

The earlier seasons were so much better and so much fun because they made great TV with less money, and got creative when they had to be, and the queens were real personalities, who had to make their own outfits etc. - The show was making fun of reality TV, in a sense.

Now it has turned into exactly that: a polished, overproduced, shallow TV competition where glitz and glam is more important than creativity, and words like "crafty" are a bad thing. And it makes for a very boring, mainstream television show with no soul.

RIP Drag Race (2009-2017)

bendela creme's iconic self-elimination - which in itself was a meta-critique of the show - was only a year ago last week (!!!), that means we've now had 4 seasons in session within one year, plus that god-awful christmas special.
it really is overkill at this point and RuPaul is milking it for all its worth, bleeding the format dry. it feels tired, forced. the quality is bound to suffer when they are churning it out so fast. he really needs to chill out, he's already a multimillionaire.
back in the day the show was well crafted with interesting character arcs and tensions whereas now it just feels random and staged, plus the challenges are rarely engaging. during the latest all stars and found myself barely able to pay attention during the middle of the show, waiting for the runway/eliminations. not to mention ru himself has become so insufferable. when he really claimed that stonewall was about judy garland, yikes! his personal tedious politics plus the move to vh1 represents a watering down of queer culture for the consumption of a mass (straight white cis) audience.
i still haven't watched the new season and i really can't be bothered at the moment. i need a break... drag race UK should hopefully be a bit different at least but still, he's really hurting the show by turning into a production line.

here's an interesting short video essay about some problems with the show explaining its decline in quality
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qg3Fy9Do2jc

it should be renamed rupaul's drag industrial complex at the rate they're going.

I don't get why though. I love all three judges, the host gimmick is fun, I guess it goes back to the contestants, I have no connection with any of them. And the maxi challenges are incredibly bad.

well... contestants aren't great. but i don't like judges. they just imitate rupaul. it's like bunch of school kids trying to do big show, but just for school academy

Well, I liked Canada's drag race. the queen are funny, talented, and diverse, although not as polished as the ones on RPdr. the challenges are funny and the lip synchs have been amazing. the judges are fine. i mean, this is reality tv, so I think everyone is playing a character for the sake of entertainment; I say this about the controversy around the judges.

i think it's been enjoyable.

I really like Canada's drag race! But I'm from Canada so that might help. It's true that the queens might seem a bit less polished but they are very talented. I have a soft spot for Rita because she's from the same province as me (Quebec) and because she's so funny!

I absolutely loved the canadian season! one of my faves ever! both this and the uk season were like a breath of fresh air, very very enjoyable!

Jimbo is probably one of my fave queens in all seasons, and i really enjoyed rita, priyanka and lemon too. well, all of the cast, really! even the judges... :shifty:

can't wait for the dutch franchise now!

it was nice! early faves are sederginne and chelseaboy.

@magnetar, as a source of dutch culture, could you please explain what fred kept saying to say goodbye to the girls? in spanish it was translated as "bye, love" or something. is it a reference to something or an inside joke? there must have been tons of stuff that flew over my head!

Fred says 'dag schat' which indeed means 'bye love' (or 'bye darling, pet, honey, cutie pie, etc.) with an exaggerated accent that is very common in the west of the country (the hard 'g') and in a snarky, but loving way a drag queen can say goodbye, a very lovingly 'later!'. I think it's just part of his drag persona, unless I missed something too. ^^

Can you tell me more about the host, please? I hadn't seen him before...

Fred started out as a stylist in the Rotterdam club scene when he was 19 and made it his profession. In 2009 he hosted his first tv show 'Dames in de Dop' where he gave women a make over. He then went on to be a coach for Holland's Next Top Model and started hosting more shows like Shopping Queens, Say Yes To The Dress and Fred van Leer: Everything Out of the Closet. He's also often a guest in other Dutch tv and radio shows. He also has 15 years of drag experience under his belt, so it was nice to see him in drag in the first episode.

there must have been tons of stuff that flew over my head!

I rewatched the first episode with English subtitles yesterday and overall the translation was pretty accurate, but sometimes it didn't make any sense at all, especially with some jokes. For instance, when Patty Pam-Pam walked in the werkroom with her mannequin dress covered in measuring tape and pinheads, she said: "Valt er hier nog wat te naaien?". In Dutch 'naaien' means 'sewing', but is also slang for 'f.ucking', so what she asked was, "Is there still something to sew/f.uck here?" A joke with a double entendre that probably nobody outside the Netherlands and Belgium got.
