Last I saw was the magnificent Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang - an amazing movie that proved to be both emotive and funny - I'll give it a 4.5 out of 5, with half a mark off for some of the story elements - an amazing film though!

I saw The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe too last night! I loved it - it was so magical! so I'll give it 5/5.
I also saw Vanity Fair, but I didn't like it that much so I'll give it 3/5

King Kong

4 out of 5... some of it was stunning. Some of it was absurd. A mighty achievement nevertheless. Naomi Watts was brilliant. Jack Black deserves to die.

also...

The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

2 out of 5... it was ABYSMAL. So, so disappointing. It´s only redeeming feature was Tilda Swinton who is FAAAB! I hated the Christian subtext. Mind you it´s the WORST of the books...

I saw 'King Kong' on Christmas and it's the kind of movie you see once and don't want to see ever again. It felt like a big romp of big budget effects and the "lovey-dovey' slow motion sequences between Naomi Watts and King Kong annoyed the hell out of me.

Oh, and I thought the Dinosaurs looked really fake and lame.

3/5

I agree, I had trouble bonding with the kids in the first hour, but from there on it was wonderful... I thought the battle scenes were amazing, all those strange creatures running along with regular animals was superbly done. Shameless on tv will not be the same after seeing Mr Tumnus. 3/5 good feel movie.

overall, I thought it was a good movie, visually impressive and with a FANTASTIC performance by Swinton (as Gelin mentioned), but I thought it was too slick and lacking in a singular identity (clearly they were pushing for a wide audience, with LOTR-like elements, and those annoying Disney-ish beavers.) But the religious element didn't bother me at all (it was well-done), and I'm an atheist, so that's an achievement.

constant gardener

Postby perrejanvande » Tue Dec 27, 2005 9:00 pm

i saw " the constant gardener" this week : it had some very good acting by Ralph Fiennes.
It is based on the book by John Le Carré.

Also as a movie it was very rewarding : content was very thought-provoking and the directing (by the maker of City of God) was well done. Sort of the right balance between "art-house"-style and "hollywood".

4/5

YEAH!!! me and my one buddy had to start it over again to make sure that's what she said. I HAD NO IDEA though. Not to give it away to anyone, but especially the one scene when she's in the closet. It made it seem like her friends mother saw her in there as she was dying, leading me to believe (not for the first time) that there were two different individuals. Ok, here's the question Poem, that still rattles my brain about that movie: If indeed He is She...Then what about the conversation Jimmy has with dude, in the gas station, after she runs in and he's all like "mamoiselle"? That part through me off like a mofo because it's two distinctly different interactions. ok my brain is fried yet again. :blackduck: :aifol: :blackduck:

p.s. yeah crash was a decent movie.

Fantastic 4 - pretty dire but due to the excessive shagability of the human torch (who seems to be half naked throughout) i give it.....

4 out of 5

Me? Shallow? Moi?

The last film I saw was Garden State. After hearing so many people rave about it (both on and off this forum) I sat down to watch it with high expectations. It lived up to them. Natalie Portman's character was beautiful. The whole film hit me as sort of a Ghost World type film...it didn't really have a solid plot..allthough things happened it still seemed to dawdle along. Also...it was happy and funny on the surface but there was quite a dark and lonely mood that it clung to. Well, that was what it was like for me anyway. I'd give it about a 4/5...great film but I don't know if it's dvd collection worthy!

Cinderella. I watched it a trillion times when i was little. My mom bought the DVD for my little sister for Christmas so we watched it together. I give it a 4 out of 5.

I like Sleeping Beauty *much* better.
