primavera sound são paulo

hello everybody, hope everyone has been enjoying atopos lately. i wanted to share you people some topics that have been discussed recently inside the brazilian communities of björk fans surrounding her very next gig on the orkestral tour map: primavera sound festival at são paulo. this is going to be her first concert in brazil since volta tour in 2007, which took place in 3 different cities by the same festival (that no longer exists). there was supposed to be a biophilia concert in 2012 but that was around the time that björk's vocal chords got inflamed.

so 10 years and 6 months later, the expectations are higher than ever. not only from the fans that missed the oportunity to see her in 2012 but from the new comrades that has joined us along the way since the release of vulnicura. in the meantime, björk digital was exhibited in three different cities in brazil. it was a success that brought together several people who had their first contact with björk's work through the exhibit and gathered local acclaimed artists and journalists to discuss with fans björk's impact on music, fashion, cinema and technology (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3fW ... RlVtcowBPK). it was supposed to continue in another city but then covid happened and the production found a way to fulfill the experience by inviting björk's collaborators to talk online about their creative processes with yet more well-known art communicators from brazil. (https://cinnamon.com.br/bjorkdigital/)

so, basically, countless admirers of björk are willing to have their whole connection with her music synthesized in this one performance that she's putting out for us in november. i know it wouldn't be fair not to compare brazil's situation with other latam countries upon björk's tours being put in the map since they also haven't seen her live since volta or biophilia but i've just wanted to contextualize how long we've been expecting this moment and how we've been following each step until the day of the orkestral concert.

all over facebook groups and twitter pages it has been discussed about björk orkestral being the only act in blue dot festival and olavsfest that wouldn't broadcast the stage performance through the screens for the crowd, which let a lot of people down. since they're paying for the complete experience, many people would be hoping to watch her concert the same way as the other artists on the lineup, especially to pay attention to björk's look, gestures and emotions while listening to their favorite songs from her career. i don't know if this has been a personal request from björk for creative decision reasons, maybe to let people focused solely on the music but the thing is: fans have been replying to the primavera sound official account's posts related to björk asking the production to let the stage screens turned on (https://twitter.com/pssaopaulo/status/1 ... 0468444164). it has also been brought up how for montreux the concert took place at the auditorium stravinski, which gave hope to see the festival team moving her from the main stage at the anhembi district (the convention center in são paulo that will receive primavera sound) to a more proper ambient for the show.

:duck: now, another thing i wanted to bring (i don't know if it has been discussed here) that probably reached everyone's thoughts is about some remarkable songs that were performed during the harpa eldborg performances that didn't make it to the final tour setlist. many of those songs wouldn't be possible to be performed due to the tour having only strings arrangement songs, but a lot of fans have been disappointed about pagan poetry not being performed on tour. some would say that's because during the iceland concerts last october the song was performed with the original harp arrangement. but let's not forget the beautiful strings rendition of the song that we were graced with during the vulnicura strings concerts in 2016/2017 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWgmsKWlGFg). i've thought that, perhaps, since the song's harp arrangement was composed by björk and zeena parkins maybe that's why the song was left out... because i've seen a video of björk in paris this year talking about bragging that all of the arrangements were composed by her. but she also said that this was a "female power situation" and her partner in this composition is in fact another woman so... yeah, i just thought that this needed to be discussed, if anyone agrees or disagrees with me! perhaps she's tired of this song and we're not in any position to ask that from her, but it has been expected concert after concert after concert to see this amazing song being performed so we could hope to listen to it live too! and i'm only talking about pagan poetry because it is the one song that brazilian fans have been pointing out the most from being forgotten on the tour... because if i start talking about the other songs that are making a deep absence in these concerts and that have been performed in strings arrangements before too, oh boy... (unison, anchor song, unravel... etc.)

anyway, if you're still reading this, thank you so much for the attention! i took the initiative to bring this subject to the 4um after i saw that björk visits here ocasionally.

just in case, hi miss b
yea, she visits from time to time.
she was here just a few days ago actually.

so keep that in mind when posting.

i don't know if she will see this but if anyone close to her, from her team, that works at oli, sees this somehow... please make sure that those details are considered! i'm not expecting to sound demanding in anyway, but at least we're trying to let it known.
until then, we'll be vibing to fossora! Image

(p.s.: björk, if you're reading this... perhaps you would like to know that milton nascimento will be performing his farewell tour in são paulo on the same week of primavera sound.)

yessssss! it will be the most exciting weekend of my life. milton and björk are my favorite musicians. i'm seeing milton on friday and björk on saturday. btw: my first time seeing both

i have to say though that i'm a bit worried about her playing orkestral at primavera. especially the same night as arctic monkeys and other indie pop/rock and electronic acts, and considering she's a headliner. i've never been to any kind of festival actually so idk how it goes. i imagine the crowds will be very noisy and certainly not expecting a chamber performance.
how early should one get there to be able to get close to the barricade? although i would like to see other musicians, i have no problems sacrificing certain concerts to get to see bjork from the first rows. also, do you think there's any chance they're moving her from the main stage?

She has mentioned recently that the Primavera concerts will be a mix of orkestral, cornucopia (i'm guessing this basically means she will add beats and some visuals) and songs off fossora.

i'm attending the sao paulo show and can't wait to see what this mix will look like and very much looking forward to seeing her perform the new songs live for the very first time.

i don't see her playing any secondary stages, especially because it's been basically mandatory for many years now that her set should happen at sunset, and arctic monkeys will close the whole thing late at night, so they definitely won't clash. i was at the sonar gig she was supposed to play in 2012 and she was also going to play the main stage. she is the biggest act of the night anyways.

as for the screens, out of all of her shows i've attended, from the volta tour through to cornucopia, the only one where there were no conventional screens was cornucopia. i didn't miss them at all, but admittedly it was more of an amphitheater setting, very different from the awful huge block of concrete with zero ambience and no acoustics that primavera chose for a venue in sao paulo.

with regard to songs that you wish she'd play but she might not, that will 100% always happen but you'll have such a beautiful and moving experience that in the end you won't even miss them.

yes yes yes! this interview made me feel so hopeful, i'm thinking she'll rehearse the same concert for brazil and argentina am i right...?

i have no idea how that'll turn out, personally didn't expect her to perform fossora songs yet since in 2017 she had already released the gate and blissing me and still was focused on vulnicura strings while performing live, which is almost the exact same case here so it made me think she would rather perform fossora with clarinets and beats.

but i'm excited with this possiblity! fans are reaching out to believe this will proceed the way it's been discussed, since the 2003 greatest hits tour was also strings and beats. and to imagine that my country can be the very first the hear fossora live its absolutely mind blowing. i've completely fallen in love with this album, it's definitely growing to be one of my all-time favorites from her. fingers crossed everyone!! 1 month left Image
