ha ha i had a discussion about it with mod yesterday.
Watch the doc "the problem with apu". it's
very interesting. and it shows that you can still love the simpsons dearly
AND regret the racist stereotypes they spread. there's no simple answer to this, now that the character is a staple and has been in the show for so long. But at least they're aknowledging how loving problematic this character is. and no it's not pretty tame. it would be like if a black character was portrayed with a stereotypically "black minstrel" voice (voiced by a white dude that came up with this brilliant idea himself, and the studio ran with it) , eating watermelon and fried chicken, and if this was the only black character in the mainstream media. (like it was in the 20s, actually, you know, a pretty AWFUL racist time for black characters in the movies)
