Finlandia-talo, july 17th

There's already a topic for this at the discography section but i guess this section is a more suitable place to continue the conversation so i thought i'd make a new one here.

björk's performing at finlandia-talo in helsinki, finland on tuesday july 17th. the venue will open at 6pm utc+3 and björk is scheduled to begin her concert at 8pm.

her intimate concert will be held in the largest concert hall of the venue called finlandia-sali (finlandia hall), which holds the capacity of 1700 people; it's a popular venue for congresses, conferences, festivals, galas, and concerts of anything from light to classical music. due to the small capacity and the large production of björk's current show, the ticket prices (including service fees, cloakroom fee 3€ not included) start at 109€ with the closest rows being 199€ per seat. it's also been reported that according to livenation, björk's show will be one of the largest productions to be held at the venue.

duration of the show is 1,5 hours and small amount of tickets are still available.

björk's previous performances in finland have been at festivals; she performed at provinssirock in 1989 with the sugarcubes, and during her solo career she's only been to finland thrice - at pori jazz festival in 1996, ruisrock in 1998 and flow festival in 2012. she was supposed to perform at the park behind finlandia-talo in 2008 but the performance was cancelled due to medical issues with her voice so this will be her 4th time in finland during her solo career and also her first non-festival performance. finlandia-talo was supposed to be "a finnish finish" for the tour this summer, however caracalla in rome will be the last stop due to rescheduling.

björk isn't the only big celebrity visiting helsinki next week as donald trump and vladimir putin are meeting each other in helsinki on monday, and during their meeting finlandia-talo will serve as a media centre for journalists - however it's been confirmed that this won't affect björk's concert and she is performing as planned.

--

I'm so excited for this! :hyper: <3 i've been a hardcore fan for the last couple of years and seeing her live has been one of my biggest dreams. i always thought i'd probably just see her at some festival in distant future so the fact that i'm seeing her this soon while she's touring with one of my top 3 albums from her is absolutely surreal. the fact that i managed to get front row seats is even more surreal, although for the time being i'm surprisingly calm about it - i'm excited af but i guess it'll hit me once i'm there for real. this is also my first time at finlandia-talo, i've passed it numerous amount of times before but i've never been inside so i got a lot to look forward to which just adds up to the excitement.

i live close to helsinki and i'm going to helsinki early on tuesday, however i don't know when exactly i'm heading to the venue - i'll do my best to keep you guys updated when the time comes! (don't expect any updates from me during the show itself though)

Apparently there's a lot of protests being held in helsinki today and tomorrow, to be honest i'd love to see candids of her taking part in one! Idk if she's still in sweden though

I would be very surprised if she doesn't address them during the concert

yayy tomorrow's the day! I'll be in helsinki in early afternoon and leaving the next day. I'm sure it's going to be amazing.

At least the flutists are already in Helsinki based on their ig story... ALSO, tOMORROW'S TEMPERATURE is supposed to be 31 DEGREES SO THERE'S THAT. WOULD'VE BEEN A GREAT DAY FOR AN OUTDOOR SHOW TOO! (IF NOT TOO HOT)

I wonder if we'll get a setlist switch-up since it's an indoor show! :hyper:

i'd be okay with that as long as she doesn't leave out human behaviour :|

The exact outfit from all points east and no changes in the setlist! I'm on my way home so i'll keep this short, it was absolutely amazing. She was so close and came right in front of us during courtship for example - we could even hear her platform shoes  she was so sweet, after the first couple of songs she thanked in swedish but she eventually got it right in finnish. Before loss and notget - the two songs i had been looking forward to the most - she told the audience to stand up if they wanted to and dance and sing with her. It was amazing and i loved seeing her smile, especially when she introduced the finnish drummer and the crowd cheered. Perfect night!

I like to think it was in Icelandic :)

here are some of my immediate reactions:

amazing concert, worked so well in a dark indoor venue with all the lasers and other lights (and shadows in the balconies!). Arisen my senses was epic. Her voice was piercing and clearly in great shape. this was my second björk concert, the other one being vulnicura strings in eventim apollo, and I have to say that it’s hard to say which one I liked more. totally different sounds in both shows. She truly is an incredible artist.

some people were maybe slightly confused after the concert... I heard one guy say that he preferred the ruisrock gig (which was I think in 1998...) but most people seemed very impressed and enjoyed the concert. it was also nice to see so many different people from all age groups. the woman next to me was probably around 70 and a boy in front of me around 10 yo. overall the crowd (surprisingly) wasnt too stiff either...except maybe when ms guđmundsdóttir asked us to stand up and dance to losss+sue me

highlights:

arisen my senses (not my fave on the album but damn it was a good opener)
isobel & human behaviour (these songs brought some lightness/playfulness to the setlist and the crowd loved them too)
wanderlust!! (just one of my favourites from her)
the gate+blissing me=beautiful

also courtship wasn’t messy at all!

edit: didn’t find the bass too loud either, maybe wouldve needed earplugs to some of her incredibly powerful and resonant belts though :dizzy:

This was also something I noticed a Eden. More so than as any other gig of hers I have attended.

I'm glad you all had such a great time!
