no

no chance

unfortunately

would be amazing though. i'm seeing the 2nd miami show. i think the most we can expect new-wise is 1 or 2 utopia songs arranged for strings. i can't see her completely ignoring the utopia era in a strings-only show

i would love to hear:

atom dance
all is full of love
all neon like
the gate
tabula rasa

...but chances are she's only doing material from the 2 strings orkestral livestreams

I guess we don't know specifically if Miami will be only strings or not. the miami press has written that she is performing with a local orchestra (but so far no mention of the name), though these articles state that Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason will conduct which we know isn't true. Victor Orri Arnason is conducting the miami shows and bjarnason is conducting the EU shows this summer.

I think press for the EU shows was pretty specific about the strings-only concerts so I'd imagine Miami will be the same, plus both bjarnason and arnason have conducted strings orchestras for bjork in the past few years.

We'll find out this weekend though

I would love a mixed orchestra with strings, brass, harp, flutes, etc. that's one thing she hasn't done as a composer yet so i am inching to hear her arrangement skills for a full orchestra. would love an album like this, too

why not? I don't see anything impossible here especially that she has finished recording the album a long time ago apparently.

maybe now being February it could be a bit too early but she probably will do that with the next shows starting from june in europe.

hope you're right with the summer shows but the last time she debuted new material on an old tour was 2001, so she's more likely not to do so now. New bjork has been far more selective/protective/restrictive about what/when she releases stuff

In 2001, Who Is It and It's In Our Hands just needed small changes to fit in the Vespertine tour, because they are technically Vespertine songs. And I'm sure it just slipped your mind jp, but the last time she debuted new album material was actually in 2003, when she performed Show Me Forgiveness, Desired Constellation, Where Is The Line, Mouth's Cradle and Storm during the Greatest Hits tour. One of the reasons she could was because that tour wasn't connected to one specific album and theme. She played a mix of songs from her previous 5 albums (including Selmasongs and b-sides), so new songs would fit in just perfectly fine. This also made the Greatest Hits tour more fun for her, instead of only having to sing older songs (again). And probably explains why that tour had the most new songs of any tour she's done.

Though I'm sure we'll have the first single before Orkestral ends, I also don't expect her to perform any new songs during it, because as always, they will have a whole new sound (with less or no Arca at all) and all connect to the new album character. I just can't imagine her stripping them down already to a more bare orchestral arrangement, losing their impact before they have even debuted in their originally intended form on the new album. Remember, the new songs during the Vespertine and Greatest Hits tour weren't finished and in their final album form yet, but the new ones are. They've just been waiting in a mountain to be released.

a little history of björk premiering songs early:

:album2:
- "the modern things" & "army of me" were played during the debut tour (1993-1994)
- an early version of "i miss you" is played during one of the interludes in the "vessel" dvd.

:album4:
- an early version of "5 years" was played a couple of times in 1995 during the post tour, also played in march 1997 on the nordic council music prize performance.
- several homogenic songs were performed before the album release on the tibetan freedom concert in june 1997 and the homogenic promo tour in august-september 1997.

:album5:
- "i've seen it all" made its debut in the union chapel concerts in december 1999, one year before the release of "dancer in the dark".

:album7:
- "it's in our hands" was performed throughout the whole vesperine tour in 2001 before its official release in 2002.

:album8:
- an early version "who is it" was performed twice in italy in 2001, 3 years before its release in 2004.
- "desired constellation", "mouth's cradle", "show me forgiveness", "where is the line" were performed various times during the greatest hits tour in 2003.

:album9:
- "storm" was performed various times during the greatest hits tour in 2003.

:album10:
- "the dull flame of desire", "innocence" and "declare independence" were played in iceland in april 2007, one month before the release of the album.

:album11:
- the first biophilia residency in manchester took place 4 months before the album release in october 2011.

utopia
- björk played snippets of "losss" and "sue me" during various dj sets in 2016-2017, as well as the samples present in the album.

...anyways, fingers crossed for new stuff soon (even tho i doubt it)

Black Lake also essentially made its debut as sheet music for organ on the Archives cover, so who knows, she could switch things up. I don't think she's likely to though

yup completely forgot about the gh tour

sad to see the setlist tonight. it legit was a mashup of the 2 string livestreams...

poor atom dance. and pagan poetry. why not resurrect that 2016 arrangement? seems silly to only perform it 3 times...

i find this seriously perplexing. i don't really get what the point of having an orchestral tour now is. it almost looks like she has a bunch of arrangements ready from the strings leg of the vulnicura tour and now she's using them. maybe she had planned a longer tour but for some reason she moved straight into utiopia? to me it is extremely strange that she didn't play one single utopia song. I get it that she didn't in iceland, given that the fourth night was mostly utopia stuff but now?

i love how we keep trying to foresee how tours and releases are going to evolve and then she just does totally random stuff.

I say it's a pretty darn good setlist so those who got to see her live must have been really thrilled
to me, the orchestral tour feels like a mini-greatest hits project, to mark off the start of a new era, so I expect it to be random, so "love logic, love logic"

i don't find it random, actually, i find it very predictable. she has 150 songs on her discography that she could pick but she just chooses the 15 ones that have a ready score to sing over and over...

yes, easy, but why now? I mean, she has an album that is apparently almost ready. SHe could release it straight away if she needed to be doing something. and if she wanted something easy she could go on with the utopia tour (if not cornucopia to keep ticket prices higher). Instead, she prefers to go back to a setting that she had just before utopia. to be it's just as weird as if she just come up with a post era concert a week after the last vespertine gig.

maybe there is not really an artistic reason, but it's more for her fun?
From https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/01/19/ ... new-album/
Q: You are actually preparing for two tours. There’s Cornucopia. But you are also doing some orchestra shows. They are very different outings, yet it seems like they might also balance each other out quite nicely.

A: They actually complement each other for me as a singer. For me, the orchestra show is a like a holiday — I just arrive with a dress in the back and turn up and sing and go home. It becomes more about me the singer. I work with the local orchestras from each place so I am more like a guest or a visitor.

And the Cornucopia is like the total opposite, where I basically am responsible for every single detail in every single department. It couldn’t be more opposite.

okay fun might be the wrong word and the concert is oddly vulnicura centered. But if it would be a little less vulnicura, i get why she would enjoy playing 2 tours that have a totally different vibe. It must be also refreshing to be able to perform something different than utopia/cornuapia again.

And these arrangements were probably still laying around so it's also relatively easy.

after years of nothing amidst the pandemic I think she's just happy to be performing, plus it's an "easy" setup that requires no big preparations and fuss.

And btw...we can pretend she has found a hidden pot of gold somewhere but the truth is that her projects are pretty darn expensive and she needs some sort of income considering her albums are not commercial blockbusters (not that I care) . I mean even big popular names like Lionel Richie or Mariah Carey have declared how important is it to tour nowadays because music isn't selling like it used to be, meanwhile tour tickets are a safe bet especially now that people are longing for live physical experiences

I mean I don't particularly find this setlist to be her most exciting ever but if she came back to Italy hell yeah I would buy a ticket, like, immediately

bless your rationality, faber. :aifol:

i also imagine there are a bunch of different considerations being made re: what kind of shows to perform, tours to plan, releases to prepare for, etc -- reasons that maybe we're more aware of than most, but still not completely 'in the know' for. björk's been doing this for a number of decades now, i think she's got a handle on the what, when, and how of her work.

i bet the pandemic kind of fuxed with these plans a bit too and that we're seeing evidence of that in the scheduling. wasn't the orchestral tour going to be more expansive at one point? so from our vantage, some of these shows may seem randomly sequenced, but could have been planned for a while now, are remnants of more expansive plans, and have just happened to fall at odd intervals out of necessity.

also, re: new album -- it is coming out when it is intended to come out, and the sooner we make peace with that, the more satisfied we'll feel when it actually does release

a little history of björk premiering songs early:

...

:album11:
- the first biophilia residency in manchester took place 4 months before the album release in october 2011.

The actual debut of any Biophilia material was that solar system app that was released in January 2011, and featured the brass instrumental of Cosmogony.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzGehxUJfsk

Then, when 16bit played Mutual Core in full as part of their DJ sets when supporting Chris Cunningham's live A/v shows, nearly a month before the MIF live biophilia premiere. I was at the London Cunningham gig, and It was nuts hearing a whole new B song for the first time on a full size venue PA system.

no one was prepared for the drops in Mutual Core! :hyper:

next concert will have the same setlist

Really?? … How boring… :/ and there is definitely too much vulnicura songs there.

yeah, just doing Vulnicura Strings versions IS kinda boring! as already mentioned during the Orkestral shows in Reykjavik, I wished she did Medulla, Volta or Utopia songs with strings!!!

Tonight's show deviated a bit from sunday and the crowd was much better behaved, I preferred tonight:

Stonemilker
Aurora
Come to me
Lionsong
I've seen it all
History of touches
Black lake
Hunter
You've Been Flirting Again
Isobel
Hyperballad
Joga
Quicksand
Bachelorette

Encore:
Overture
Pluto

Yes tonight was great. Better setlist than the first show. She cut mouth mantra and (very very gratefully) notget

Felt less vulnicura-like, plus the overture was a great revisit (first time for all strings I believe)

Hyperballad was the highlight for me! Such a perfect version. Never been a big fan of the song but this version...

Has there been no bootleg recording of the California or Miami show? Excluding the one I post earlier
