Split a song into stems

Postby ogeid » Sat Sep 03, 2022 9:02 pm

Hi everyone!
Recently i discovered that finally there are diferent software,PlugInS and apps powered by artificial intelligence to take any song and split it into 4 or 5 stems (bass, drums, vocals, etc) and use them to Make remixes or instrumentals, acapellas or just have fun listening to the stems…
I’m personally obsessed with beats now
Its true that the results are not perfect and it really depends on how the songs are recorded and mastered and what kind of instruments are used, but its just a matter of time they will be better and better performing its job.
I loved to listen to bjorks music this way like “i only want bass and drums on this song” or “only voice and drums for this other” etc
I also discovered a lot of details and Stuff i never heard before, and i started listening to bjork in 2000-2001…

One can dream,i hope in the future this is a regular option to listen to music, that artist release their music in a number of stems per song with the artist main mix but you can play and change that mix as you want…

I extracted the beats from hidden place and this is the result as an example

https://soundcloud.com/diego-losana/hidden-place-drums

What do you think about all those tools emerging for song splitting purposes?
Would you buy an album remastered in a future format that lets you mix the song your own way?

this sounds really interesting. however I would not call it "Hidden Place - drums" but "Hidden Place - beats" (and eventually "hand claps").

which software did you use?

I don’t have a computer,so i use the App “Moises” and online sites with better results like https://mvsep.com/ because its free and uses the most common tools but choose “demucs3 model b” for best results.
there are more apps and sites like https://vocalremover.org/ or https://x-minus.pro/ai?r=1662239202903 but you have to pay to use them (not expensive) ….

https://www.lalal.ai/ Became very famous, its good but more expensive…

I have to buy a computer because demucs for example is free to download and use,its open, but need a pc to run it

i still have the official mutual core and stonemilker stems.

it´s nice to experiment with them, there´s so much to discover with björks music.

keep us updated with some vocal&piano/organ stuff. ;D

The Stonemilker ones are more like stem samples, everything is there, but the audio files are very short. I think the source is the Stonemilker app.

No,those are extracted from this podcast

https://songexploder.net/bjork

I guess the stonemilker app contains beats and 360º audio versión or different string takes because what you Hear depends on your position…

But i dont know how to extract the audio from the app :dizzy:

Since iTunes eliminated the option to download apps on a PC (and I'm assuming Mac) years ago, I think only people with jailbroken iPhones or iPads could get to it.

almost 2 years since i created this post and ai stem separation has improved a lot and also my skills hehe

i extracted again the beats from the 5.1 version of hidden place and then mixed with vocals to create a beats & voice version of the song.....it sounds wayyy better than two years ago!

you can listen to it here and i hope you like it:
