now that we've finally got our muddy little paws on the new single and while we're still high on mother's spores, let's all gather and create a moodboard for the new era!

you can pretend this is our dwarven cave and fill it to the brim with treasures: pictures, videos, audio or anything that evokes mood of fossora! you can justify your choices or add fun facts. we all love a fun fact!

so far we only have the "atopos" video, a couple posts and an interview to start from. the video can't help but think of the Lady of the Green Kirtle from the chronicles of narnia. A woman living underground, dressed in green that keeps the children entranced with her tunes. come on... that's a really fossorial snake!

Image

the video also includes what i think is a reference to this gorrrrrgeous cave in new zealand, that's dripping with bioluminescent larvae. it's one of my fave images of the beauty of the underground.

Image

finally, Screams Recorded at the Bottom of the Deepest Borehole! it's a full-on hoax, but the idea of digging so deep that you find sounds you shouldn't find is  ! what about a new Pluto based on this?

the 4um has been revitalised, and it's ferrrtile soil for ideas! feel free to share anything, this is a safe space devoid of judgement :D

(well, as devoid of judgement as a forum full of fagurts can be).

thanks! i love making playlists too!! :)
i made one after the guardian article and i updated it a bit.
there's less björk in mine (i'm in canada, so there's almost no b-sides and remixes older than biophilia on spotify) and it's gabber/hard techno heavy at the end, which i love since 1997 and it was a good opportunity to curate some of the classics available.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0NfDM ... b43b3a4c30

i also try to make a playlist every week with the majority of the new releases of the week mixed with older stuff i love or just discovered. i mostly make it for myself and a few friends, but feel free to look them up on my profile.

cool! :) yeah i love discovering new music and sharing it! i should have been a dj. i'll try the atopos-in the musicals-dark matter vibe for sure and you made me realise that dark matter (which i love!) was missing from my playlist! corrected it with the choir+organ version. :)

i want to pin up one more musical thing on the moodboard if i may

the raw drumbeat combined with the clarinet arrangement on “atopos” reminded me of an album called hidden by these new puritans. some of you might know them, they did a remix of “mutual core” for björk a few years ago (they also had a livestreamed gig during the pandemic that took place in mr. henry dagg’s workshop where they performed with our old friend sharpsichord—so there are more connections)

i’m thinking especially about the outro to “fire–power” or “drum courts–where corals lie”, but the whole record is built around the dynamic between heavy beats and neoclassical woodwind parts. i’d say their arrangements are less angular and more pastoral but there’s definitely some similarity in the music being anchored by a heavy bottom end (and some of the songs on the album—like this one—betray a reichian influence they seem to share with björk)

you can listen to the album here, it’s already over 12 years old (jesus time flies!) but still very good

was i supposed to find out this guy is a hottie in a cheesy fanboy thread??

D:

i'm ready for him to take the place of the hot flute guy from the vessel dvd. "reborn" from the hereditary soundtrack is one of the most euphoric pieces i've ever heard and it made a great scene even better. is he playing the clarinet like a didgeridoo here?

the game is too confusing for me to really understand the story or anything, but the visual side is excellent!

i'm glad you brought this up, imagine how fierce this style would be in a video for fungal city or fossora? :hyper:

i just remembered that my favorite video game has fungal cities in it! the elder scrolls 3: morrowind (released 20 years ago!) is home to a guild of eccentric mages that live in mushroom towers on the rocky coast of a volcanic island. :duck: :blackduck:

the 1st image is from the original game, the 2nd is concept art by joseph watmough, and the 3rd is from elder scrolls online.
