Björk’s audio/visual online presence

Postby Erik » Tue May 23, 2023 12:44 am

Does anybody else think björk’s work is presented poorly online? I understand things like this probably aren’t b’s priority whatsoever, and we know her stance on streaming, but I was wondering if anybody else felt the same! I know some of these come down to licences etc between countries and companies and whatnot but I feel there should be improvements. Some examples:
- YouTube - many videos missing, Some only available in certain countries, many in poor quality
- Apple Music/Spotify etc - artist photo on iTunes is very old lol, most artwork for albums is visibly bad quality. Many albums/singles etc missing, some only available in some territories. Lots of grey “unavailable” tracks as well
- website - the old website should be available somewhere. The current website is pretty useless, where’s the lyrics? The photo section? Etc it’s missing very basic things that people look for on an artists website. The Fossora site seemed to be a step in the right direction.
- The store also has many items that have been unavailable for years, and isn’t super easy to use
Not trying to be super negative on these, I just think her work deserves better. Anybody else agree? Opinions? Have any label contacts or leads on how to get these little things fixed?

Yeah, HD videos would help a lot. I thought they were remastered/enhanced for the moma exhibit and they'd show up online soon after, but not a trace of them after more than 10 years later.

there's always been a certain sloppiness to official björk-related stuff, of whatever nature --- I mean, no offense, but look at the state of this forum

it's a bit surprising for an artist who's been otherwise very meticulously documenting her musical career, in all kinds of interesting and sometimes redundant ways; but of course it's really not up to her to make sure that we get hq videos on YouTube, and whoever is in charge, well...

yeah, i was thinking something along those lines not too long ago. it's a pity, also because apparently she's popular among gen-z and it would help if they could find good stuff online.

what irks me most is the newsletter to be honest. i know it's like expecting pigeon post these days, but given that the website is... well the way it is and that the newsletter is not being sent out anymore (i can't recall when the last time i received one was), the only way you can find information about her projects these days is through social media. i don't have facebook and twitter anymore so i don't know how those are managed atm, but back in the day not very well.

her instagram has gotten a lot better in the past year or so, so at least there's that. But still her online presence makes her look like she's a low-mid range ageing artist.

I just noticed family tree is available for streaming in Canada - under OLI and not Elektra as the greyed out unavailable version that’s been on there for ages! It is listed under albums and not compilations on Apple Music. So nice to have the string versions - maybe there’s hope, with this and Biophilia live being available recently?

cool thing about the :squid: family tree :squid: thanks for sharing

about the newsletter and forum, I absolutely agree and I miss the newsletter too. I think what it comes down to is that oli remains a relatively small independent label with limited resources.

but good news, I may have found a solution for the forum. too early to tell, but let's just say I am starting up the conversation yet again! :naughty:

in Mexico most of the singles have been available already on platforms for years i guess, but "triumph of a heart" cd2 is new !! waiting for possibly maybe cd2 & cd3, all is full of love cd1 and the biophilia remixes 1-6 parts, and i think that's all!! (i'm talking about the cd/digital singles, i don't think they'll upload anything unreleased or dvd/vinyl-only). play dead would be cool too but i think oli don't have the rights for that single...
and i love that they changed the "family tree" cover to make it look closer to the physical cover

- bachelorette ep 1
- hidden place vol. 1 + 2
- pagan poetry vol. 1
- cocoon vol. 1 + 2
- it's in our hands vol. 1 + 2 (SPT mix not labelled)
- triumph of a heart vol. 2 (with new cover!)
- family tree (with new cover)

exciting so far!!! :hyper: hoping this is just the beginning

not to burst your bubble but the oli guy on reddit said these were uploaded by mistake. since they were "promo" mixes they can't be uploaded at this time.

seems like oli isn't as familiar with their catalogue as fans are. there are lots of promo-only remixes but these Joga mixes (and alarm call and :aifol: ) were released commercially. so it's iffy if these will be on streaming services (or better yet, purchasable in lossless)

The first remix (Alec Empire "Empire State Of Emergency" Remix) is available in this compilation CD:
https://www.discogs.com/master/82713-Va ... -The-Clock

------
btw: all the biophilia remix parts are available NOW :hyper: and bastards is back too.
they also added TO spotify the deluxe version of biophilia with the 2 extra songs and nattura. :logo: :logo:

i wonder if it’s just temporary - i recall this happening to some madonna singles recently.
some of the more recent björk releases that i added to my apple music library still show up there and play even though they aren’t showing at all in her artist page.

the rumour about her albums being remastered and reissued next year made me wish for a comprehensive b-sides/remixes/non-album tracks compilation—i don’t even wish for ultra-rarities or unreleased tracks, just for all this stuff to be in one place, easily available (physical & digital), instead of being scattered across 8676453 singles that randomly pop up then disappear from streaming services

biophilia live, family tree, part of bastards and some singles that were added to björk's streaming catalogue this year have disappeared again... and i'm seriously upset. i really do hope this is some sort of misunderstanding, an error or something... and that these titles can come back regularly to where they belong.

this messed up all of the special playlists i made, i had a bunch of biophilia live versions on a playlist i made for my boyfriend, this is serious to me lol i'm infuriating and confused, like... why?

i really would love a comprehensive b sides and remixes box, but i think that oli would rather go with a box set with 126 singles with a mean number of 1.2 tracks per cd for 2400 £.

the bottom line is that it is high time for another greatest hits era:
- a live box set with live cds for each album after vespertine (medúlla and volta need some love in that respect - i was not a fan of the voltaic live in the studio)
- a box set with all the b-sides (again, looking at volta - trance makes it the top 10 björk songs and it's criminal that we don't have a proper release for it)
- a box set with remixes and alternative mixes

that is my list, thank you santa

I have asked several times to be able to have access to the old site to be able to republish it but it has not yet been possible, unfortunately.
I keep trying! :hyper:

it's a shame that this is such an issue since the videos with good quality were used at björk digital...

i guess some of the reuploads she did around 2019 were from this archive (jóga, triumph of a heart, human behaviour, oceania, bachelorette, army of me, hidden place, etc.)

but still a lot of videos from the official channel are missing: hyperballad, it's oh so quiet, cocoon, who is it, wanderlust(!!!), declare independence, crystalline... such a shame.

I don't think it's going to happen

Hey, I'm sorry for being silent on this sub for many months. I know many of you are upset about various releases being taken down. I will rectify this asap. I haven't forgotten you! As mentioned in earlier posts, I've been busy since Jan moving Bjork's catalogue from one digital distributor to another and it has taken longer than expected. This is why releases are up and down but everything will be ok soon. By next summer you will have more Bjork songs than ever. <3
